In a major anti-narcotics breakthrough, Assam Police seized drugs worth ₹45 crore and arrested four people involved in an interstate smuggling network. The operation, which unfolded during a series of coordinated raids across multiple districts, is being hailed as one of the largest drug seizures in the northeastern state this year.
According to senior police officials, a cache of heroin and methamphetamine tablets—suspected to have been trafficked from across the border—was intercepted based on actionable intelligence. The arrested individuals are believed to be key operatives in a well-organized drug syndicate operating across Assam and neighboring states.
Officials confirmed that the contraband was hidden in a vehicle modified to conceal drugs and was en route to mainland markets. The four accused are currently under interrogation, and authorities are pursuing additional leads to dismantle the broader network.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the police for their vigilant action, reaffirming the state's commitment to making Assam drug-free. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other central agencies are expected to assist in the extended investigation.
This seizure is yet another reminder of the increasing attempts to push drugs through northeastern corridors, turning the spotlight on the need for tighter surveillance and cross-border cooperation.
