Drishti IAS has been fined ₹5 lakh by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) for making misleading claims about its students’ success in UPSC exams. The institute was found guilty of using deceptive promotional content that could misguide aspirants.
According to reports, the CCPA imposed the penalty after discovering that Drishti IAS used exaggerated claims in its advertisements regarding the number of students who cleared the UPSC examination under its guidance. The investigation revealed inconsistencies between the institute’s claims and official UPSC results, prompting the consumer authority to take strict action under the Consumer Protection Act.
The CCPA stated that such misleading advertisements not only violate consumer rights but also exploit the aspirations of thousands of UPSC candidates who rely on coaching institutes for guidance. The authority emphasized that transparency and honesty are essential in educational promotions.
Drishti IAS, one of the most popular coaching centers for civil services, has been directed to withdraw or modify all misleading advertisements and issue a public clarification. This move serves as a warning to other coaching institutes that indulge in exaggerated claims to attract students.
Experts believe this penalty will set a precedent in the education sector, urging institutions to maintain authenticity and refrain from false marketing tactics. The CCPA’s decision highlights the growing scrutiny on the education industry, particularly coaching centers that capitalize on aspirants’ am
bitions.
