A controversy erupted after a filthy train coach was sent to ferry BSF jawans assigned to Amarnath Yatra duty, triggering outrage and leading to the suspension of four railway officials.
The incident came to light when images and videos of the unsanitary train compartments went viral on social media, showing broken windows, dirty toilets, and uncleaned seats, sparking widespread criticism. The jawans, who were being deployed for security arrangements during the annual Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, were reportedly made to travel in substandard conditions.
The Ministry of Railways swiftly responded to the backlash, issuing an official statement that condemned the negligence and announced the suspension of four senior officials from the coach maintenance and operations department. "The comfort and dignity of our security forces cannot be compromised," the statement read.
The Border Security Force (BSF), while maintaining discipline and avoiding direct protest, acknowledged the incident and appreciated the public support. Meanwhile, various political leaders and citizens demanded higher standards and respect for the armed forces, especially during such critical assignments.
This incident has once again highlighted the need for better coordination between central agencies and railways when it comes to logistical support for paramilitary forces. The Ministry has assured that an internal audit of all upcoming special arrangements for security personnel will be carried out to prevent such lapses in the future.
