Nick Reiner has been arrested in connection with the deaths of his father, legendary director Rob Reiner, and his mother, Michele Singer Reiner, after the couple were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home, and is being held by police.
The bodies of Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found inside their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025, after a family member discovered them and called authorities. Law enforcement officials say the couple died from stab wounds, and their deaths are being investigated as a homicide.
Shortly after the discovery of the bodies, 32-year-old Nick Reiner — the son of the couple and a screenwriter — was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department. According to police records and reports, he is being held on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, with bail reportedly set at $4 million.
Nick Reiner has spoken publicly in the past about his long-standing struggles with addiction, including bouts of rehab and periods of homelessness, which once inspired a semi-autobiographical film he co-wrote with his father titled Being Charlie.
Police and investigators have not publicly confirmed a motive for the killings, and formal charges are expected to be filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities have said the case remains under active investigation.
The tragic deaths have shocked both the entertainment world and the public, prompting tributes to Reiner’s long and influential career as an actor, director, and activist, and reflections on the struggles faced
by his son.
