Woman Puts Newborn in Fridge, Family Blames ‘Evil Forces,’ Doctors Cite Postpartum Psychosis

A shocking case emerged where a woman placed her newborn in a fridge. While the family blamed ‘evil forces,’ doctors highlighted postpartum psychosis as the real cause.

The incident has not only alarmed society but also brought attention to the critical issue of maternal mental health, which often remains ignored in many communities.

According to reports, the woman, who had recently given birth, displayed unusual behavior and eventually placed her infant inside a refrigerator. Fortunately, the baby was rescued in time, but the act left the family and neighbors in shock. Instead of seeking medical help, the family initially attributed the incident to the influence of “evil forces” or supernatural powers, a belief deeply rooted in traditional and rural mindsets.

However, doctors clarified that the woman was suffering from postpartum psychosis—a severe mental health disorder that can occur after childbirth. Unlike postpartum depression, psychosis is a rarer and more dangerous condition that can lead to hallucinations, delusions, and harmful actions towards oneself or the baby if left untreated.

Mental health professionals stress that awareness, early diagnosis, and timely treatment are essential to prevent such tragic incidents. They emphasize that families must recognize unusual behavioral changes in new mothers and seek immediate medical assistance rather than relying solely on superstitions.

This case serves as a wake-up call to society to break the stigma around mental health, support new mothers emotionally and medically, and bridge the gap between cultural beliefs and scientific unders

tanding.
