Paytm has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a partnership with Bharat Taxi, India's new government-backed ride-hailing service. According to the company, under this partnership, Paytm will expand its mobile payment infrastructure on the Bharat Taxi platform, so that passengers can make rides payments within the Bharat Taxi app through UPI. Apart from this, Paytm is also planning to integrate payment technologies like QR codes, soundboxes, and card machines on the platform, so that payment acceptance becomes even easier and safer.
Paytm explained through a press release that the partnership will take forward the intentions to promote UPI onboarding of drivers, the potential presence of the Bharat Taxi mini-app, and increase visibility and engagement between the two ecosystems. This move by Paytm is aimed at strengthening financial inclusion for drivers and increasing their access to digital financial services.
Bharat Taxi was formally launched on 5 February 2026 by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. It is India's first ride-hailing platform based on a co-operative model, which is being operated under Sahakar Taxi Co-operative Limited. The goal of this service is to give drivers ownership and better income opportunities, as well as free service with transparent fares and surge pricing.
