About the Barbie Film

Barbie is an American fantasy comedy film. The film was released on 21 July 2023 in US. It is directed by Greta Gerwig who is an American film director, actor and screenwriter have directed notable films like Little Women, Lady Bird, Mistress America, Frances Ha, Northern Comfort and upcoming film Snow White. Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are the writers of the film.

The main cast of the film is Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman and Will Ferrell.

Barbie premiered in the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on July 9, 2023, and was released theatrically in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on July 21, 2023. Its simultaneous release with Oppenheimer sparked the "Barbenheimer" social media fad, encouraging viewers to watch both films as a double feature. The film earned positive reviews from critics.

It is the first live-action Barbie film after countless computer-animated direct-to-video and streaming television films based on Mattel's Barbie fashion dolls. Along with America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Helen Mirren, and Will Ferrell, the film stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, who embark on a journey of self-discovery following an existential crisis.

Universal Pictures announced a live-action Barbie film in September 2009, with Laurence Mark producing. Sony Pictures purchased the picture rights in April 2014, kicking off development. The rights were moved to Warner Bros. Pictures in October 2018 after many writer and director changes, as well as the casting of Amy Schumer and eventually Anne Hathaway as Barbie. In 2019, Robbie was cast, and Gerwig was revealed as the director and co-writer with Baumbach in 2021. The remaining cast members were revealed in early 2022. From March to July 2022, filming took place mostly at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England, and at the Venice Beach Skatepark in Los Angeles.

Barbie has grossed over $400 million worldwide.
