Pakistan Fires at Indian Positions Along LoC in Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor; Indian Army Acts in Retaliation

Pakistani troops breached the ceasefire accord across the Line of Control (LoC) in several sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, including Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor. The Indian Army retaliated with firm action, and heavy casualties were reported on the Pakistani side.

In the Naugam area of Kupwara district, Pakistani forces started unprovoked firing with mortars and other heavy weapons. The attack resulted in the killing of two Indian soldiers and injury to four others. The Indian Army retaliated with a befitting response to the aggression

In the Kamalkote sector of Uri, Pakistani forces opened fire at civilian areas, resulting in damage to residential buildings. The Indian Army retaliated effectively to silence the enemy fire

In the Akhnoor sector, Indian positions were opened up by fire from Pakistani soldiers. The Indian Army retaliated immediately, and firing went on for a number of hours.

These ceasefire breaches have come amid escalated tensions between India and Pakistan after a militant attack in Pahalgam left 26 dead. India blamed Pakistan for backing the militants involved in the attack, but Islamabad denies it. India has responded with various steps such as asking Pakistani nationals to vacate, suspending a treaty on sharing water, and shutting its skies to Pakistani planes. Pakistan has retaliated by shutting its skies and bolstering border security.

The Indian army continues to be put on high alert along the LoC, awaiting further provocations. The world has raised an eyebrow over the heightening of tensions and requested that both countries exercise restraint.
