The Indian Air Force (IAF) made four precision air-launched missile attacks deep within Pakistani territory, severely weakening Pakistan's air defense structure and forcing Islamabad to approach the U.S. for an immediate ceasefire.
The bombing, India's Operation Sindoor, was a reprisal against Pakistan's previous bombing, Operation Bunyan al-Marsoos, which targeted Indian airfields. Operating under the package of Rafale-launched SCALP missiles and SU-30 MKI-launched BrahMos missiles, the IAF struck and destroyed strategic command and control centers, including the northern air command network at Nur Khan Airbase in Chaklala.
Pakistan's retaliatory attack, launched at 1:00 a.m. on May 10, was designed to neutralize Indian airbases within 48 hours. The IAF's timely and tactical counterattacks, though, successfully neutralized this threat by 9:30 a.m. on the same day. The last Indian attack was made on Jacobabad and Bholari airbases before Pakistan, in an urgent appeal, called for a ceasefire from the U.S.
Further showcasing its air dominance, India's S-400 air defense system, stationed at Adampur, was deployed 11 times during the operation. It intercepted and obliterated a Pakistani SAAB-2000 airborne early warning system about 315 kilometers deep within Pakistani airspace.
The IAF also confirmed the destruction of a C-130J transport plane, a JF-17, and two F-16 fighter aircraft, both on the ground and in the air.
The IAF also used HARPY kamikaze UAVs to destroy a LY-80 Chinese-made air defense system in Lahore and precision missiles to destroy an HQ-9 system (Chinese version of the S-300) in Karachi. The Indian Navy had placed its fleet 260 miles off the Makran Coast, ready to attack Karachi Naval Port. But after a warning from Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations regarding retaliatory attacks, India did not attack the port.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised the military for their swift action, highlighting India's zero-tolerance for terrorism. He noted that Operation Sindoor was a proper response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which had taken 26 lives.
This series of incidents represents a glaring escalation in Indo-Pakistani tensions, for it showcases India's enhanced military strength along with its emphasis on anti-terrorism. The prompt and potent response from the IAF has not only cut threats in the very moment of action but also sent out a crystal message about India's defense posture.
