Many states of the country, including North India, are in the grip of severe heat. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a very high probability of heat wave in many parts of northwest, central and eastern India in the coming days. At the same time, rain warnings have been issued in many states including Jharkhand, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Sikkim.
According to the Meteorological Department, heatwave warning has been issued in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, eastern Uttar Pradesh, western UP, western Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh till April 23. The temperature has also increased in Delhi and people are troubled by the heat. During last 24 hours, maximum day temperatures ranged between 40°C - 45°C over Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, East Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Interior Odisha, Rayalaseema, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Rajnandgaon recorded 45.0°C mercury
Temperatures are being recorded in the range of 36°C-40°C in the rest of the country. On Sunday, the highest temperature of 45.0°C in the country was recorded in Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh) and Wardha (Vidarbha) combined. The lowest minimum temperature in the plains of India was recorded at 19.0°C in Ludhiana (Punjab). The maximum temperature is likely to rise gradually by 2-4°C over Northwest India. Maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 2-3°C over East India during 20th-21st April.
