Statue of Oneness

A 108-foot tall statue "Ekatmata ki pratima" (Statue of Oneness) of the spiritual leader Adi Shankaracharya unveiled by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Omkareshwar town. This is situated on the Mandhata mountain on the bank of the Narmada river in Omkareshwar in Khandwa district. The statue weighs 100 tonnes and is installed on a 75-foot platform. This statue is made up of bronze that contains 88% copper, 4% zinc and 8% tin.

 

 

Adi Shankaracharya was born on 11th May 788 AD, at Kaladi near Kochi, Kerala, and took samadhi at the age of 33 at Kedar Tirth.

 

 

At the age of two, he could fluently speak and write Sanskrit. At the age of four, he could recite all the Vedas, and at the age of twelve, he took sanyas and left his home. Even at such a young age, he gathered disciples and started walking throughout the country to re-establish the spiritual sciences.

 

Adi Shankaracharya propounded the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta that teaches that there is only one reality Brahma and everything else is Maya(Illusion). The goal of Advaita is to achieve moksha (liberation) through the realization of one’s true identity as Brahma

 

Jyotirmath: Joshimathi Chomoli, Uttarakhand.

Shringeri Math: Chikmagalur, Karnataka.

 

Govardhan Math: Puri, Odisha.

 

Dwarka Math: Dwarka, Gujarat

 

These four mathas were established by Adi Shankaracharya in four cardinal directions to spread his teachings and he was responsible for reviving Hinduism in India to a great extent when Buddhism was gaining popularity.

 

The ardent followers of Adi Shankaracharya believe that he was an incarnation of Lord Shiva.
