ECI Excludes 2.89 Crore Voters in Uttar Pradesh During SIR Drive

Lucknow: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has excluded 2.89 crore voters in Uttar Pradesh under the Special Intensive Verification of Electoral Rolls (SIR).

The draft electoral rolls released by the Election Commission on Tuesday included 12.55 crore voters out of 15.44 crore, Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said.

Rinva held a press conference on Tuesday about the SIR campaign in the state. "On October 27, 2025, there were 15,44,30,092 voters in the state's electoral rolls.

Out of these, 12,55,55,56,025 voter registration forms were received. This is 81.30 per cent," Rinwa said. "Out of the 2.89 crore excluded voters, 2.99 per cent are dead and 2.57 crore voters (14.06 per cent) have migrated permanently or could not be made available during the verification process," he said.

Door-to-door visits were conducted for voter registration forms. The deadline for registration applications was to end on December 11. However, the state had sought 15 more days' time as a large number of 2.97 crore voters were being excluded from the draft list.

Accordingly, the deadline was extended till December 26. The date for publishing the draft electoral roll was December 31. However, due to the parallel process under this campaign and the Election Commission's suggestion to rationalise the polling stations, there was a slight delay," Rinwa said.
