Thursday was a very special day in India's electoral history. Out of the total 294 seats in West Bengal, voting was so much for 152 seats in the first phase and for all 234 seats in Tamil Nadu that all previous records were shattered. By 10 pm, 92.66 percent voting had been recorded in Bengal and 85.14 percent in Tamil Nadu. The question is being raised about such a bumper voting, is this the effect of SIR? Let's understand.
First election held in Bihar after SIR
Elections to the Bihar Assembly were held in November last year. This was the first election in the recent round of Intensive Revision of Electoral Roll (SIR), in which voting was held on the basis of the revised voter list. During this process of SIR, about 69 lakh ineligible voters were removed in Bihar.
About 26 lakh new voters were also added in the state. Due to this process of joining and withdrawing voters, the total number of voters was reduced by about 42 lakh.
