MEA Responds to UK Report Accusing India of 'Transnational Repression'

India strongly rejects the UK report's claims of 'transnational repression', calling them biased and unsubstantiated, as per the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a strong rebuttal to a recent UK parliamentary report that accuses India of engaging in "transnational repression", dismissing the allegations as motivated, unfounded, and lacking credibility. The MEA stated that such reports undermine diplomatic dialogue and rely heavily on politically influenced sources.

The UK report had flagged concerns over India’s alleged targeting of dissidents and critics abroad, a claim India views as part of a broader disinformation campaign. Responding firmly, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We completely reject such baseless assertions. India is a democratic polity governed by the rule of law and our constitutional values.”

India has also questioned the credibility of the organisations and individuals cited in the report, many of whom have known links to extremist or separatist activities. The MEA warned against legitimizing fringe narratives in parliamentary platforms that could harm bilateral relations.

This development comes amid growing tensions between New Delhi and certain Western entities over issues of sovereignty, diaspora politics, and international law. India maintains that while it respects global cooperation, it will not accept external commentary that distorts facts or impinges on its domestic matters.

The Indian government emphasized that such narratives not only misrepresent India's global role but also set a dangerous precedent by encouraging misinformation over legitimate law enforcemen

t actions.
