A 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district. It is alleged that a man put the girl and her two younger sisters in the car on the pretext of giving them a lift and then carried out the incident. The incident took place when the three sisters were returning home from an Eid fair.
How did this heinous incident happen?
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Deepak. He took the three sisters into confidence that he would leave them home safely. But instead of helping, he locked both younger sisters, ages 6 and 12, inside the car. According to a report in India Today, he then took the elder sister to a secluded place and raped her there.
Threatened, hence the delay in the complaint
The victim told the police that the accused had threatened her by showing a weapon. He had warned that if he protested or told anyone about it, the consequences would be bad. Due to this fear, the girl did not tell anyone immediately.
According to the India Today report, two days after the incident, the younger sisters told their mother the whole story, only then the heinous act was revealed.
What action did the police take?
On the complaint of the victim's mother, the police have registered a case and arrested the accused. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police say further investigation is underway.
