An Afghan Air flight mistakenly landed on the wrong runway at Delhi airport, prompting aviation authorities to launch a detailed investigation into the serious safety lapse.
According to initial reports, the aircraft was cleared for a different runway but failed to align with the assigned direction, resulting in a landing on an unapproved runway. The Air Traffic Control (ATC) noticed the deviation but the landing had already been executed safely.
A high-level probe has been ordered by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to determine whether the incident occurred due to pilot error, communication failure, or technical issues in navigation systems. Authorities will review cockpit voice recordings, ATC tapes, and flight data to identify the root cause.
Passengers onboard the aircraft remained unharmed, and normal airport operations resumed quickly after a brief inspection of the runway. The incident, however, has reopened discussions about the need for enhanced safety protocols and stricter compliance with ATC instructions, especially for foreign-operated flights.
More updates are expected once the official investigation report is released.
