IndiGo flight’s tail touches runway during landing at Mumbai Airport amid adverse weather, airline confirms safety of passengers and initiates checks.
The incident took place on Friday when the aircraft, arriving at Mumbai Airport, encountered challenging weather conditions that made the landing more turbulent than usual.
According to IndiGo’s official statement, the aircraft experienced a "tail strike" while landing. All passengers and crew onboard were reported safe, and there were no injuries. The airline further stated that the aircraft has been grounded for detailed inspection and maintenance checks as per safety protocols.
Tail strikes generally occur when the rear of the aircraft comes in contact with the runway surface during take-off or landing. Aviation experts highlight that such incidents can happen in difficult weather conditions or due to abrupt maneuvering during landing.
Operations at Mumbai Airport were briefly impacted by heavy rains and gusty winds, which added to the landing challenges for multiple flights. IndiGo reassured travelers that passenger safety is its top priority and that it continues to comply with strict aviation safety standards.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also been notified and will conduct an investigation into the matter.
This incident has once again highlighted the crucial importance of maintaining strict safety checks and protocols in aviation, especially during adverse weather conditions.
