Earthquake tremors have been felt in Kolkata. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 5.5 on the Richter scale. The tremors caused panic among the people and people came out of their homes and offices in panic. No loss of life or property has been reported so far.

According to initial reports, the epicentre of the quake was in Bangladesh. The tremors lasted only for a few seconds. The impact of the earthquake was felt more in high-rise buildings.

In many parts of the city, people reported shaking of furniture and ceiling fans. In many offices, employees evacuated the premises and gathered in open spaces as soon as they sensed the magnitude of the quake. Many videos have surfaced in which people were seen gathered in open places after the earthquake. 

The epicentre of the quake is 10 km below the ground, 100 km north of Kolkata.
