Government gives strong assurance of fuel security: No shortage of LPG, crude oil reserves secured, PNG transition continues
Despite the ongoing tension in West Asia and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian government has assured citizens that there is no shortage of fuel and cooking gas (LPG) supplies in the country.
The government clarified that the country currently has about 60 days of crude oil reserves available, while the total storage capacity is 74 days. Crude oil supply for the next 60 days has already been ensured. Not only this, India is also playing a leading role in global energy security as energy products are supplied to 150 countries. This is in the context of India's refinery capacity.
India is a major importer of crude oil and a major exporter of refined products (petrol, diesel etc.). The government said that even on the 27th day of the Hormuz crisis, India is receiving more crude oil than ever before from more than 41 supplier countries around the world. The high volumes available from international markets, especially from Western countries, have offset any potential disruption.
Refineries running at more than 100 per cent capacity
All refineries in India are running at more than 100% capacity and there is no shortage of supply. This government has categorically rejected some articles and misinformation being spread on social media, claiming that only 6 days of stock is left in the country. The country's total storage capacity is 74 days as against the current physical stock of 60 days (including crude oil, product reserves and dedicated strategic reserves in underground caves).
