A former employee of Greek shipping company European Navigation initiated a tragic incident on Monday, resulting in the loss of three lives, including the company's owner. The perpetrator, identified as a 70-year-old Egyptian national, entered the company's offices near Athens armed with a short-barreled rifle. Witnesses recounted his deadly rampage, during which he fatally shot three individuals before taking his own life.


The event unfolded with chilling intensity as Greek SWAT agency EKAM responded to what was initially perceived as a hostage situation. European Navigation, based in Glyfada, manages various vessels and is known for its operations in the maritime industry.


Survivors described harrowing moments of chaos and fear as the assailant targeted company personnel, driven by a reported desire for vengeance against the management. Tragically, among the victims were family members of the company's founder, Spyros Karnesis, along with a valued employee.


The profound grief and shock reverberated through the Greek media and the community, prompting heartfelt statements from those affected. Karnesis expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his sister, son-in-law, and business partner, reflecting the profound impact of this senseless act of violence.
