BSF Arrests Pakistani National for Illegally Crossing Border in Punjab's Gurdaspur

A Pakistani national was arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday on charges of allegedly entering Indian territory close to the Indo-Pak international border in Punjab's Gurdaspur district.

As per government sources, BSF personnel deputed at Border Outpost (BOP) in the sector reported suspicious activity in the early hours of the day. On prompt response and interception, the troops were able to arrest the person before he could move further inside Indian territory.
The intruder has been identified as a Pakistani resident but whose name and background information is still being confirmed. Preliminary interrogation by BSF officials indicates that he could have crossed over inadvertently but an investigation has been launched to confirm or eliminate any foul play or espionage attempts.

No weapons or incriminating material was recovered from his possession during the time of arrest," a top BSF officer said, adding that normal procedures are being adopted, including intensive interrogation and coordination with intelligence agencies."

The incident has been reported to the local police and other concerned security agencies. Authorities are also set to hold flag meetings with the Pakistan Rangers to address the issue, depending on the investigation findings.

The Gurdaspur district, which has a sensitive border with Pakistan, has seen similar attempts at intrusions in the past, which usually have resulted in heightened vigilance and patrolling by the BSF.

This development comes amid heightened security along the international border, especially in the lead-up to sensitive dates and ongoing concerns around cross-border infiltration.
