World Para Athletics Championships 2024: Following four years and a gruelling journey, Sandeep Chaudhary wins a gold

Team India broke the national record by winning 17 medals at the just concluded World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan. They took home six gold, five silver and six bronze medals. Sandeep Chaudhary, the javelin thrower, backed up this winning streak by winning a bronze after four years! "It was a long fight for this medal, but I stayed patient and didn't let my expectations overwhelm me," he says, referring to the gap as a test of his patience. Now I just have to think about doing my best.

Deepthi Jeevanji kicked off India's gold medal run at the 2024 World Para Athletics Championships by winning gold in the T20 women's 400m, setting a new world record with a time of 55.20 seconds. Then Sachin Khilari won the gold medal in men's shot put F46 with an Asian record of 16.30 metres, while Mariyappan Thangavelu, a two-time Paralympic champion, won his first World Championship gold by setting a championship record in the men's high jump. T42 with a jump of 1.88 metres. Current Paralympian and World Champion Sumit Antil in Men's Javelin F64, Ekta Bhyan in Women's Club F51 and Simran Sharma in Women's 200m T12 were the best with a personal best of 24.95 seconds. three more gold medalists for India.
