Premier League: Diaz scores twice as Newcastle loses to Fulham and Liverpool takes the lead

In only two minutes, Luis Díaz produced two excellent goals to help Liverpool defeat Bournemouth 3-0 and take the lead in the English Premier League on Saturday. Only goal difference separates Arne Slot's team from Manchester City, and a draw against Arsenal at home on Sunday is all that's needed for the reigning champion to take back the top spot.

During a rare day when teammate Mohamed Salah was silent in front of goal, Díaz showed off his own finishing abilities at Anfield by scoring with both feet. In the 28th minute, the Colombian attacker chased down a long pass from defender Ibrahima Konaté, twisted, and skilfully controlled the ball with his waist before slipping past custodian Kepa and into the bottom left corner.

That was with his right foot, and in the thirtyth, he scored his second goal with his left. Trent Alexander-Arnold led Liverpool's break from midfield, stroking ahead before passing the ball to Díaz inside the left penalty area, where he finished with a lovely clip past Kepa. In the 37th, Darwin Núñez scored a well-deserved third. He first intended to cross the ball after collecting it wide right, but he later changed his mind and curled a beautiful shot in off the left post. Newcastle lets an opportunity to take the lead.Newcastle would have taken first place in the league with a victory, but it fell 3-1 against Fulham, dropping to sixth place. Raúl Jiménez's strike into the lower right corner and the goalie's error gave Fulham the lead early on. Emile Smith Rowe was awarded Fulham's second goal by Nick Pope in the 22nd.

After the break, Harvey Barnes scored a comeback, but Reiss Nelson clinched the win in stoppage time. Watkins motivates Villa's comebackOllie Watkins, the in-form scorer for England, saved the day as Aston Villa overcame a dismal Wolverhampton team 3-1 in a heated rivalry to take third place. Diego Carlos's poor pass allowed Matheus Cunha to score the first goal. Before Watkins tied the score in the 73rd with a deflected finish for his fourth goal in three games, Villa failed to muster any chances against a club without a victory. In the 88th minute, Youri Tielemans' cross was converted by Ezri Konsa, and in stoppage time, Jhon Duran played true to his super-sub moniker by scoring. The Colombian attacker scored for the fourth time this season after coming off the bench. Due to a protracted delay when Colombian defender Yerson Mosquera had medical attention for an injury before being carried out on a stretcher, there was over fifteen minutes of stoppage time at Villa Park. Villa is two points clear of Chelsea and tied with City on points but behind on goal differential.
