Morne Morkel Appointed as India's New Bowling Coach, Debut Assignment in Bangladesh Series

In a significant move ahead of their upcoming series against Bangladesh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the appointment of former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel as the new bowling coach for the Indian cricket team. The appointment comes as part of the team's strategic overhaul in preparation for a packed international calendar.

Morkel, known for his lethal pace and towering presence on the field, will assume his new role immediately, with the Bangladesh series marking his first assignment with the Indian squad. The series, which kicks off next month, will see Morkel working closely with India's pace and spin attack, bringing his wealth of experience and unique insights to the team's preparation

Morkel has a plethora of experience. In 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is during his illustrious career, he took 309, 188, and 47 wickets, respectively, for South Africa. Along with Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn, Morkel established one of the deadliest attacks in cricket history, frightening batters everywhere in all formats.

Morkel has a long history with head coach Gautam Gambhir. For three seasons, they have shared the Kolkata Knight Riders changing room. Additionally, the two collaborated with the Lucknow Super Giants, where Morkel served as the bowling coach and Gambhir as the mentor. In fact he stayed on as the bowling coach for LSG even after Gambhir joined KKR before the present season.

As Morkel steps into his new role, the cricketing world will be keenly observing how his expertise shapes the future of Indian cricket, beginning with the crucial series against Bangladesh
