At the Special General Meeting on Sunday, it was revealed that Jay Shah, who acquired the position of ICC Chairman last year, will be replaced as the new secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India by former first-class cricketer Devajit Saikia. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla confirmed both assignments after the General Board Meeting. He informed the media, "Prabhtej Singh Bhatia was elected as BCCI treasurer and Devajit Saikia was voted as the next BCCI secretary."

Saikia, a former first-class cricket player, scored 53 runs in four games while playing for Assam in the 1990–91 season. He has served as the joint secretary of the BCCI and the secretary of the Assam Cricket Association and brings experience in cricket administration. He served as the acting interim secretary of the BCCI following the election of the former secretary to the post of International Cricket Council.

Devajit Saikia, previously associated with the Assam Cricket Association, is known for his administrative acumen and his deep-rooted involvement in cricket development at the grassroots level. His appointment as Secretary signals a move towards strengthening the administrative framework of Indian cricket while fostering inclusivity and innovation.

Speaking about his new role, Saikia expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him. "It is an honor to step into this position and contribute to the incredible legacy of Indian cricket.
