Aman Sehrawat Clinches Bronze at Paris 2024, Secures India's First Wrestling Medal, and Boosts Medal Tally to Six

Aman Sehrawat has made history by securing India’s first wrestling medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning bronze in a hard-fought contest. This victory not only adds to India’s overall medal tally, bringing it up to six but also shines a spotlight on the country’s growing prowess in the sport of wrestling. Sehrawat defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Toi Cruz 13-5 in the men's freestyle 57kg match to secure India's sixth medal at the ongoing Games.

On the event's first day, the 21-year-old wrestler had an impressive run, winning by dominance in the quarterfinal and round of 16 matches. But in the semi-final, Sehrawat was easily defeated by Japan's top-seeded player, Rei Higuchi.

Sehrawat’s win is particularly significant as it opens India’s wrestling account at these Olympics, a sport where the country has traditionally found success in previous Games. His achievement has rekindled hopes and aspirations for future success in the sport, especially given the high expectations of Indian wrestlers.

On Saturday, India's last remaining contender at the Games, Reetika Hooda, will aim to add to the medal tally when she begins her campaign in the women's freestyle 76 kg event.
