Champai Soren quits, and Hemant Soren returns as the new CM of Jharkhand

On Wednesday, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren resigned from his post, and former CM Hemant Soren, who was forced to resign from his position as chief minister after being detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on suspicion of a money laundering case, took over the office.

Hemant Soren resigned as the Chief Minister of the State in January of this year after being jailed in connection with a money laundering case. "Hemant Babu, also known as Hemant Soren, was chosen as our alliance's leader. I've resigned from my post on my own.” Champai Soren, the departing chief minister, told reporters outside Raj Bhawan. Soon after Champai Soren submitted his resignation to Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan, Hemant Soren declared his intention to take over as head of state.

On February 2, three days after the then-chief minister Hemant was detained by the directorate of enforcement (ED) on suspicion of money laundering about an alleged land fraud in the state capital, Champai took leadership of the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition government.

Five days after the JMM executive president was released from custody on June 28 after being granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court in the ED case, Hemant has decided to return to executive leadership.
