The first Lok Sabha election in Bhagalpur was held in 1951 when it was combined with Darbhanga as a single seat. They were later separated during delimitation. In the 2019 elections, Janata Dal United's Ajay Kumar Mandal won with 618,254 votes, followed by RJD's Shailesh Kumar with 340,624 votes.
