The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) will offer a three-day cultural festival, 'India Weekend,' at New York City's Lincoln Center between September 12 and 14, 2025. Aided by philanthropist and Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani, the drive aims to celebrate and showcase India's rich and varied artistic heritage on the global platform.
The festivities will start with the 'Grand Swagat' at Damrosch Park in Lincoln Square, where fashion designer Manish Malhotra's fashion show and a specially designed meal by chef Vikas Khanna await the visitors. Visitors can expect to enjoy performances by some of India's best known artists like Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal, and classical musician Rishab Sharma. There will also be a panel discussion on cricket, a Bollywood dance workshop by choreographer Shiamak Davar, and daily yoga sessions with wellness guru Eddie Stern. The highlight of the weekend will be the launch of 'The Great Indian Musical: Civilization to Nation,' a grand theatrical production tracing India's evolution from ancient civilization to modern nationhood.
The NMACC will present the international premiere of The Great Indian Musical: Civilisation to Nation, commencing with five performances. The eagerly awaited US premiere of India's largest theatrical production begins on September 12th. The production features outstanding Indian talent, with a Tony and Emmy award-winning team, and is conceptualized and directed by Feroz Abbas Khan. The NMACC also introduces The Grand Indian Bazaar.
Nita Ambani, who was trained in Bharatnatyam since childhood, spoke of how she was eager to showcase Indian culture to the rest of the world. "After viewing Lincoln Center and Sydney Opera House with my kids, I would think why can't India have such a place," she said. "I was eager to build a space that could reflect on our cultural heritage."
The NMACC, opened in Mumbai in 2023, has played a vital role in the propagation of Indian arts by hosting various performances and exhibitions. The forthcoming 'India Weekend' in New York is its first international exhibition, seeking to strengthen the cultural bond and bringing India's artistic heritage into the limelight for the masses.
Tickets for the show are likely to be available in June-end. More details are available on NMACC's official website.
