In an unprecedented collaboration, Salman Khan, Zoya Akhtar, and Farhan Akhtar are set to produce a documentary that chronicles the legendary partnership of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, known as Salim-Javed. This ambitious project, brought together by Salman Khan’s production house along with Tiger Baby and Excel Entertainment, aims to bring to life the story of the duo who revolutionized Indian cinema.

 

Salim-Javed, the powerhouse behind some of the most iconic films in Bollywood history, are celebrated for creating the “Angry Young Man” character and transforming the entertainment industry with their compelling narratives. Their groundbreaking work is set to be revisited through this landmark collaboration, offering a deep dive into their illustrious journey.

 

The documentary will be a tribute to Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, produced by the trio of Salman Khan, Zoya Akhtar, and Farhan Akhtar under their respective banners. Salim and Javed, whose partnership spanned from 1971 to 1987, not only redefined Indian cinema but also achieved a rare feat for screenwriters—attaining star status. Their prolific collaboration resulted in 24 films, with 20 being both critically acclaimed and commercially successful.

 

Among their numerous blockbusters are classics such as Zanjeer, Deewaar, Sholay, Trishul, Don, and Kaala Patthar. These films not only dominated the box office but also introduced several cultural phenomena, including the “Angry Young Man” archetype, the masala film genre, the Dacoit Western genre, and narratives centered around the Bombay underworld.

 

The documentary, produced by Salman Khan Films, Tiger Baby, and Excel Entertainment, promises to celebrate the unparalleled legacy of Salim-Javed. It will offer an in-depth look at how these two visionary writers shaped the narrative of Indian cinema, making an indelible impact that continues to resonate with audiences and filmmakers alike.
