Around 2:30 am on Thursday, Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan was repeatedly stabbed by an intruder in his Bandra high-rise apartment in Mumbai. The blade was still stuck in his spine when he was taken to the hospital.
After receiving six stab wounds, including one to his neck, Saif Ali Khan, 54, was carried in an autorickshaw outside his younger son Jeh's room for emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital and was deemed safe by medical professionals.
According to news agency PTI, the 12-story apartment was occupied by Saif Ali Khan, his wife and fellow celebrity Kareena Kapoor, their two sons, four-year-old Jeh and eight-year-old Taimur, and their five housekeepers. Eliyama Philip, Jeh's nanny, who initially encountered the armed assailant, told the police that he demanded ₹1 crore.
According to police sources, the intruder may have entered the actor's flat covertly with the purpose to rob him, but he did not break in or force his way in. The assailant is still at large after escaping through the stairs. On CCTV, the accused assailant was seen running down the stairs from the sixth story of the Satguru Sharan building while sporting a red scarf and a rucksack.
A number of unresolved queries raise concerns over the security breach in one of Mumbai's safest residential neighbourhoods. Even though the assailant allegedly used the fire escape, it is still unknown how they got into the house without noticing and into the kids' room. Saif Ali Khan's employees and workers engaged in current repairs are being questioned by police. In order to determine whether an insider with regular access could have enabled the attack, investigators are looking into the potential of an inside job.
Given their freedom of movement within the structure, it is unclear if the assailant had inside assistance or was familiar with its layout. Authorities are looking into how the assailant escaped being seen by many cameras, including one at the entryway, even though they have made public CCTV footage of the burglar descending the stairs.
Mumbai Police have cordoned off the actor’s house and are conducting a thorough investigation. However, they have yet to release any official updates about the case. Questions about how the attacker gained access to the house and whether there were lapses in security remain unanswered.
