Ahmedabad, June 1, 2025 — With the IPL 2025 final just around the corner, excitement is reaching fever pitch. But alongside the buzz, the city’s crime branch caught a man trying to make a quick buck by illegally selling IPL final tickets at inflated prices.
The suspect, who lives in Jagdishpark Society, Vadodara, was caught near Mahalaxmi Crossroads during a routine patrol. Police found six physical tickets on him. Each ticket had an official printed price of ₹1,500 but was being sold by this man for ₹5,000 each — more than three times the face value.
When questioned, he admitted that he had bought the tickets online but didn’t have permission to resell them. The police have registered a case against him under the Gujarat Police Act for unauthorized selling of public tickets.
This incident highlights a common problem during big events like the IPL final — ticket scalping. The final is scheduled for June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, and tickets sold out almost instantly. Many fans who couldn’t get tickets from official sources often turn to resellers, sometimes falling into scams or paying way more than they should.
ASI Khoda Arjan, who filed the FIR, explained that these black-market sales hurt genuine fans and spoil the spirit of the game. “We want to warn everyone to avoid buying tickets from unauthorized sellers. Not only is it illegal, but these tickets can be fake or invalid, leaving fans disappointed on match day,” he said.
Police are also looking into whether this man was working alone or part of a bigger scalping network. Meanwhile, they’ve increased patrolling around busy spots and are keeping an eye on online resale platforms to catch anyone else trying to profit unfairly.
The Gujarat Cricket Association has also promised to help the police clamp down on such illegal activities and ensure a fair chance for all cricket lovers to enjoy the game live. They’ve urged fans to buy tickets only through official channels and report any suspicious sellers.
As the whole city gears up for what promises to be an unforgettable IPL final, this arrest is a reminder that the passion for cricket should never be exploited by unfair means.
