India Ready to Cut Tariffs on US Goods to Zero, Claims Donald Trump

Donald Trump has claimed that India is ready to reduce its tariffs on US goods to zero, signaling a potential breakthrough in trade relations between the two nations.

If implemented, this decision could reshape India-US economic ties, opening up new opportunities for industries in both countries. Trump’s statement has sparked debates on whether India is truly prepared to make such a move, considering its protectionist trade policies in the past.

According to Trump, India has expressed willingness to eliminate duties on several categories of American goods, including agricultural products and manufactured items. Such a step would be a major shift from India’s traditionally high tariffs, which have long been a point of contention in bilateral negotiations.

While the announcement could strengthen US exports and reduce costs for Indian importers, experts caution that India is unlikely to take such a drastic step without ensuring reciprocal benefits from Washington. Analysts believe India might seek easier access for its IT services, textiles, and pharmaceutical products in return.

The claim comes at a time when India is looking to strengthen global trade ties amid changing geopolitical dynamics. A zero-tariff arrangement with the US could also help New Delhi counterbalance China’s influence in global markets.

However, officials from India have not yet confirmed Trump’s statement, and observers say it could be part of his political rhetoric aimed at showcasing his success in international trade negotiations. The coming weeks will determine whether this claim transforms into a real policy shift or remains just another campaign headline.
