Nationwide Strike on 9th July: Over 25 Crore Workers Set to Protest, Disruptions in Public Services Expected

Over 25 crore workers are expected to participate in a nationwide strike on 9th July, raising concerns about major disruptions to public services across India.

In what is being dubbed as one of the largest labor protests in recent times, several trade unions and worker federations have announced a coordinated nationwide strike on July 9, 2025. The strike is expected to affect transportation, banking services, healthcare institutions, educational establishments, and other essential sectors.

The protest is being driven by demands related to minimum wage revisions, job security, rollback of labor reforms, and opposition to privatization of public sector enterprises. Trade unions have accused the government of ignoring their long-standing issues and failing to engage in meaningful dialogue.

According to sources, major states such as Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Delhi are expected to witness large-scale participation. Bus and rail services may be limited, while operations in government offices and public sector banks could come to a standstill.

Schools and colleges in various states may announce closures or shift to online mode. Emergency services like hospitals are expected to run on skeletal staff or remain partially functional.

Authorities have urged citizens to plan their travel and daily activities in advance to avoid inconvenience. Security has been tightened in several metro cities, and law enforcement agencies are on high alert to maintain order during the protest.

The strike will serve as a test of strength for organized labor in India and a key moment in the ongoing struggle between worker rights and economic reform.
